Developing different shirt processes

I’ve been working with water-based screen printing ink. Personally it’s for my own health because it’s easy to clean up and I don’t have to use as many cleaning chemicals.

I decided to try something new, which is to use fabric paint to add color into the line work of a print and then print on top again. Halfway through the processI realized that I’ve used this method before back in Texas. The difference being now I’m using fabric paint as opposed to modifying screen print ink. There are two potential issues that could come up. The ink doesn’t cure long enough and it either washes out on the first wash or begins to deteriorate quickly. The second issue is that the fabric paint could not be designed for layering like I’m doing.

This is still the early stages and more testing will have to be done. But the print looks cool in this stage.

So for clarification on the process.

-Print Line work in water-based Red

-Cure

-Paint in flats and textures using fabric paint

-Cure

-Print last layer of Purple ink

-Cure.

This by no means is a way to make multiples, just getting the process going to see how I can use different methods to add color to line work. For the time being I’m interested in making unique pieces.

I’ll probably add more to this piece.
